Partners in Regional Organisational HR Development
Dr Chira is endorsing and assisting in the design of iHR Asia's Snapshot HR development programs commencing at Stamford University, Bangkok this August. The programs are short courses designed to give Managers in Thailand the tools and practical skills to perform as 'effective leaders in a global employment market'.
In 2007 they will be rolled out across other countries in South East Asia. As a leading academic in the region, Dr Chira is supporting iHR Asia's programs as a means to add a far more practical approach to education. As with iHR Australia programs conducted in Melbourne and Sydney, Snapshot HR Programs will utilise actors to facilitate learnings in practical HR skills such as job interviewing, giving performance feedback and managing conflict in the workplace.
Stephen Bell says 'In many parts of our region practical elements of global Human Resource Management practice are challenging because of culture. For example giving and receiving honest feedback is not always easy because of social norms, especially between a younger manager and more experienced employee. In a local employment market such norms can be tolerated because all the employment market competitors come from the same angle. However in a more 'internationally educated and sophisticated' age of employment the expectations of talent pools has grown significantly and employers are being forced to ensure they have all elements of the employment approach up to scratch. The professional workforce especially is beginning to demand a more collegiate and empowered management-employee approach'
Stephen's close working relationship with Dr Chira also opened the door for Melbourne University to host 35 Senior Executives from Thailand's largest Electricity provider 'EGAT' on a two day leadership development program on May 22 and 23, 2006.
